The challenge
To create a content series about Carnival during a challenging time: with celebrations canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In that context, the content needed to avoid any encouragement of public gatherings.

Context
I conceptualized this project at Nexo Jornal to highlight the legacy of women who shaped samba into what it represents for Brazilian culture. The goal was to deliver accessible content with a direct yet engaging narrative. The timing was challenging, and the newspaper needed compelling stories: Carnival had been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research
The project was structured as a visual series, making it easier to execute and ensuring recognition over the weeks it was published. Its structure included:
> A visually striking opening illustration.
> Charts exploring the most iconic albums of each artist's career.
> Visual biographies highlighting key moments in their lives.
> Analysis of the most frequent words in their compositions.
The project's aesthetics were inspired by Henri Matisse's collages. We adapted shapes and colors to evoke Rio Carnival, using elements like serpentinas and stars. All illustrations were based on photographic documentation, ensuring authenticity in historical representation.
Execution
I divided the project into five stages and actively participated in all of them, with support from assistant designers, data scientists, and editors:
